How To: Promote Your Event

We’ve all heard people say before that social media is the best marketing- but do you ever find yourself wondering HOW people get their products to go viral? This month we are sharing some insights for promoting your event on socials and getting the most amount of people in the doors- directly from our social media manager here at The Bedford!

1) leveraging trending audios and hashtags
Now that Instagram has a new feature that allows users to follow hashtags, the significance of hashtags has increased. It is important to note that simple, generic, strategic hashtags are going to go a lot farther than complicated and specific hashtags. Using popular hashtags that are found often in social content means that your post will be grouped in with other popular posts, giving you more exposure. In the same way, trending audios are important because when people click on the audio, they can see every video that has used it (including your video). This is a quick way to get exposure without doing too much work!

2) the importance of content quality + using ‘reels’

Content quality is everything. Captions, matching fonts, well-placed emojis, crisp footage and editing are key in capturing and keeping the viewers attention. Keep it simple and short so they don’t scroll away, and use different angles and cutscenes to keep their attention on your message. The second that a video gets blurry, viewers will scroll to the next. Make sure to use a camera or a phone that will produce clean images or video. Reels are the best way to get a lot of information to a consumer in a short amount of time, since most people scroll through reels daily and are less likely to look at an infographic post. They are also extremely popular across multiple generations and demographics, and are a good way to break up your feed in a cheerful way that keeps your audience interested.

3) catchy, simple captions

Long captions are tricky to read on a phone and often most people don’t have the attention span to read through the whole thing. Use tasteful emojis to break up your paragraphs, and keep your paragraphcs to a minimum of a few sentences. Keeping your captions simple and witty- containing only the key information necessary- will get consumers to move to the next action faster (signing up, attending an event, buying a product, visiting a website, etc.)

4) know your audience (using analytics to your benefit)

Analytics are provided by all social media apps. Use this to your advantage! Knowing the demographics of your audience can help you curate content specifically for them. For example, an older demographic will most likely understand and appreciate a simple facebook post with a classic caption. A younger demographic is more likely to enjoy fast-paced content like reels.

5) not overposting, but not underposting

The days that content gets the most engagement varies often (use your analytics to check this). However, posting 2-3 times a week is a good sweet spot. Posting every day will cause your followers to become overwhelmed and unfollow. Posting once a week will cause consumers to lose interest in your product. Remember: tagging, collaborating, reposting, and commenting are great ways boost engagement on your posts. Get your vendors to comment, like, and share- it will boost your post to more people!

Happy posting!
